Since the beginning of 2018, Teamstudio Export has been helping businesses quickly and easily archive their Lotus Notes applications. If there is one thing we have learned, it’s that customer feedback and use case requirements provide invaluable intel for the direction of feature development and enhancements.
With that in mind, we would like to invite current customers and those interested or involved in HCL Notes/Domino database export or archive projects to participate in an open beta preview of our upcoming Export v4.3 release.
One of the more requested features has been that embedded views within applications be supported when exporting traditional HCL Notes-based applications.
Previously, customers with embedded views in their database designs were required to make design changes in order to workaround the challenge of them not being fully supported when exporting the applications to archives. For example, one approach would be to populate fields on a specific document with a series of doclinks targeting the range of data notes previously contained within any embedded view.
Although these methods provide a way forward when working with applications that use embedded views, these approaches are far from ideal as they still require a good amount of coding to take place. Ideally, applications being targeted for archiving should not require any new development to take place.
Export 4.3 will automatically render the contents of an embedded view on the HTML or PDF representation of a Notes document. As you can imagine, there are many possible variations to the way that views can appear on a form, and so we would like to expose this new feature to as many real world databases as possible during the beta testing phase.
How Can I Participate in the Beta?
If you are interested in trying out the beta release, please get in touch with our team by sending an email to beta@teamstudio.com, or using our online request form. Our team will then be in touch with a link to the download along with further instructions.
Some Things to Be Aware Of:
Embedded views are not enabled by default. To enable them, go to the last page of the Configuration dialog in the Beta section, and check ‘Export Embedded Views.’
Embedded views are supported for both HTML and PDF exports.
If you have already exported databases with a previous version of Teamstudio Export, there is no need to re-archive the database to XML. Existing XML archives already contain all of the information necessary to support embedded views.
We only support embedded views with the ’Show Single Category’ option selected. If you have a good use case without using that option, then please let us know when you provide your feedback, and we will be happy to evaluate all requests.
Performance may be an issue. We suggest testing with a smaller database first, if possible. You can measure the impact of embedded views on performance by running with and without the ‘Export Embedded Views’ option enabled.
How Do I Provide Feedback?
Of course, we’d love to get your feedback, that’s kind of why we’re doing this! In the coming weeks, our team will reach out to you during the course of the beta program to inquire about your experience and to seek any feedback, requests or challenges you experienced.
You may also provide direct feedback or queries at any time by reaching out to our team by emailing beta@teamstudio.com.
