Teamstudio Export V3.2 Adds Support for Tabbed Tables, Local Database Archiving, and More

By Nigel Cheshire

If you’re familiar with Teamstudio Export, you’ll know that it already does a great job of displaying archived Lotus Notes documents in HTML close to the way those documents would look if you were viewing them in the Notes client. With each new release of the product, one of our key objectives is to improve the fidelity of our rendering of the Notes documents in your archived databases as you view them in your browser. And the latest release, version 3.2, is no exception.

The major step forward for this new release is that we now fully support tabbed tables in the browser, both in the form design as well as in rich text fields. Tabs within tables behave just as they do in the Notes client; as you click on the tab header, the data displayed beneath switches to match.

Probably the best known application of tabbed tables is in the Domino Name & Address book, good old names.nsf. In the server configuration area of that database, the designers went crazy with tabbed tables, nesting them three deep in some places. The new version of Export handles nested tabs nicely.

In addition to tabbed table support, we have also added a feature that many users have been asking for: the ability to archive local databases. This is currently a BETA feature, which means that it is disabled by default. To enable the ability to archive local databases, you need to step through the configuration wizard, which is accessed from the File menu, until you reach the last screen. You will find the new Beta section under the Advanced configuration options.

Check the box marked “Include Local Notes Data” and then optionally edit the name that will be used to identify your local computer’s data. You need to provide a unique name for this data set, so that Export is able to differentiate databases from different servers and different user workstations.

The other new feature that is included in the Beta section is the ability to optimize the full text search indexes for the Japanese language. Unless your databases primarily contain Japanese text, leave this setting at Default.

In addition to these changes, there are several other improvements in this new version of Export. We have made some significant enhancements to the performance of the HTML export function, as well as reducing the amount of free disk space needed to create archives. We’ve improved the handling of number and currency formats as part of a total of more than 25 enhancements. You can read all the nitty gritty detail in the Release Notes.

If you have already exported a number of databases and you want to see the improvements to the HTML output such as tabbed table support, there is no need to recreate the XML output files. Simply select the databases whose HTML output you want to update, and redo those HTML exports.
